The Legend of Gainsbourg

I don't think there has been another woman who I have idolised more than Charlotte Gainsbourg. The daughter of French singer-songwriter, actor and director Serge Gainsbourg and English model, actress and singer Jane Birkin, she was destined for success.

From a young age Charlotte was exposed to the controversial works of her father, appearing in a duet with him titled "Lemon Incest".

Her elegance and commitment to her art is inspiring.

Charlotte has recently won the Best Actress prize at the Cannes Film festival for her role in the new Lars von Trier film Antichrist where she plays a grieving mother. The film is one of Trier's darkest including scenes which many critics have deemed to be torturous and borderline porn. The film exudes the typical features of a Trier film including his use of a shaky hand-held cam which can be seen in other works such as Dancer in the Dark starring Bjork.

The legend of Gainsbourg lives on.

Finished

Just Finished Chamber of Secrets
and it was amazing
not as amazing as The philosophers stone, however was still very good
I have Duke of Ed this week for three days, which will be hell
imagine school camp and times it by the largest number you can think of
oh well, its always shit at the beginning before you have to go and then you laugh about it at the end
if you don't drown or get hit by a tree in the wilderness :S

For a while now i've been trying to remember this film i first watched with my cousins and hated
and after i outgrew my stubbornness i proceeded to bore them by watching it over and over again
the other day i was searching through blogs and a girl did a post about it
its called the craft and is the most magnificent witch/cult movie ever
not that i have seen many
watch it now
i am just about to run to the video store to get it
Enjoy your Monday

I spy . . an interesting 24 hours

Formal finally came and went yesterday and in the early hours of this morning after a lengthy year of lunch time talks surrounding issues of dates and dresses. Formal itself was a plethora of bad music and flashing cameras, pleasantly followed by afters where many exemplified a louder, more outgoing personality.
Thanks to all our friends who made the night as pleasant as it could be

i spy . . . a delightful challenge

The holidays have begun today and i have set myself a goal to read all the Harry Potter books before returning to school in 2010
I have just finished the Philosophers stone
which was incredibly delightful and continued to surprise me even though i have on numerous times heard the plot and its complications
tomorrow is formal so I'm guessing not much reading will be going on however thursday will be the beginning of The Chamber of Secrets
I really don't understand the hoo-ha surrounding the twilight series
i only read twilight but my experience with Harry potter shows a clear delineation between the plot and the books' execution
Stephanie Meyer is a messy writer in comparison
I enjoyed Josh Thomas' remark on the finale of Good News Week last night
he replied to Georgie Parker after she commented on New moon with
"I'm really disapointed that kids won't experience some of the more classic novels such as Harry Potter"

Good Day

I spy ... a search

I am in the search for the perfect hat
I composed a x-mass list for my mum the other night and discovered that one thing i truly want is an epic hat. . .
along with many extravagant items.. this year featuring expensive Jewelry, a trip to London, a pony or an English bike all of which i will most definantley not find under the tree on the 25/12/09
but my search for the greatest hat alive has since begun
and all i have found are a few wide brimmed sun hats and black bowler hats however the hat i want is a boater hat
You see the Shore boys wear them like they are imprisoning their faces and heads in a mask of straw
but i am constantly in awe of there fashionability
so until i find a Shore boyfriend, whose hat i can borrow/ steal permanently
I must start scrounging stores both branded and vintage across sydney
any ideas of where to begin?

these are some of my favorite hats :

I spy. . a sleepy Monday

Very Lazy Monday.
I had a half day today because of swim trials
which were gloriously predictable and then spent the remainder of the day sleeping
Today we got our book lists for year 11 and Picture of Dorian Gray is one of the English Extension texts
i felt like the biggest nerd for actually getting excited about something related to school
but it was the most excitement i got out of my monotonous day
2 days until formal and i haven't booked my make-up
such a hoo-ha over nothing i say

The temperature has dropped significantly after yesterday
and all i could think about when people  brought up the heat as a means of conversation was Oscar WIlde quote
but there was nothing that plagued my mind so much as the weather to talk about

Excited for the last day of school tomorrow
should be a blast. except that the last day involves a lengthy mass followed by an even longer awards ceremony, at which i am not receiving an award
waste of a day where i could be painting
or indulging in my new found love of writing story books

Say hi to forever

Daul Kim, Korean model ended her life in an apartment in Paris yesterday morning. She was found after writing a post on her blog titled  " say hi to forever. " She was found by her male friend and called police who suspected suicide. She often wrote on about the pressures and stress involved in modeling and now reading over her blog a deep negative undertone is present.
Friends said that Daul was in a fragile and emotional state and suffered from the pressures of her career saying "I'm mad depressed and overworked, the more I gain the more lonely it is. I know I’m like a ghost"
If her death is confirmed a suicide she will be the second model to end her life in this way in paris this year.
Kim, a regular on the catwalks of London, Milan and New York, was brought up in Seoul and Singapore. She modelled in Asia before making her appearance at Paris Fashion Weekin 2007, modelling for Chanel, Dries Van Noten and Maison Martin Margiela. She recently appeared in a commercial for Christopher Kane’s Topshop line and featured in the latest issue of Russh.
Her blog has been inundated with fans leaving tributes. In an early post Daul wrote “My life as Daul was so sad and lonely. Join me in my solitude in another world.”

other dark posts included:

Honestly, I’ve been in hell’

“Say hi to forever”

“Oh but how lonely it is. then and now”

“I was getting mad depressed and overworked in seoul. ppl tell me to do something, and i do it, and then they always tell me don’t do anything. and when i don’t do anything they also tell me to do something”

“What are you doing for halloween . . . nothing special i’m already a monster”

“So many times I almost jumped but didn’t”

“My life is so god damn predictable its disgusting”

“So imagine . . . how much stress i get from work honestly ive been in hell last few weeks”

“I wore high high heels and short short skirts to hide my depression and weakness tried to hide my loneliness by hornyness”

“I need to learn how to stop destroying myself and be nice to myself”

Daul will be greatly missed by the modeling world and her fans
